Dr. John A. Mushomi, Ph.D

Dr. Mushomi brings over 15 years of research and policy development experience.  He holds a Doctoral of Philosophy in Population Studies from Makerere University, a Master of Philosophy in Demography (MPhil) from the Cairo Demographic Centre, an extraordinary graduate diploma degree in Population and Development from the Cairo Demographic Centre, a general diploma degree in Demography from the Cairo Demographic Centre and a Bachelors in Social Sciences with a bias in sociology from Makerere University.  He also has 16 years of university teaching, research, and policy practice experience in research, development and policy analysis. He has trained with Johns Hopkins University on reproductive Health and Development as well as with the Global Health Institute in Population Health and Environment. He is a certified trainer and fellow Demographic Health Survey Analytics with ICF Macro Inc.

John is an editor for the Partners in Population and Development International e-Journal of South-South Cooperation in Population and Development and an associate editor for the International Journal of Educational Development in Africa. In addition to serving on the Union for African Population Scientists (UAPS) council representing Eastern and Horn of Africa, he is a founding vice president for the Population Scientists’ Association of Uganda. He has provided research and support services to ministries, departments, and agencies in East and Southern African countries in areas of research, and policy analysis.  faculty member at the Department of Population Studies at Makerere University. He also holds a research and Policy postdoctoral fellowship position with the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).

Over the years, he has worked on various areas of demographics, including reproductive health, demographic dividends, migration, urbanization and development, and population policy and development. He has provided research and support services to ministries, departments, and agencies in East and Southern African countries in areas such as migration, demographic dividend, and research and policy analysis.
