Nabuko Claire Dorothy is a dynamic and purpose driven youth advocate and social entrepreneur. She is a certified Life Skills Coach working with KIFAD. She is also the founder of Cladona Fashions, a fashion enterprise empowering young women and girls through skills training and employment and Mbuubi Mind Developers, a Climate Change initiative promoting environmental awareness and youth-led action. Claire holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University. Claire mentors young people in personal development, leadership and career readiness. Her work bridges youth empowerment sustainable development and climate resilience making her a rising leader in community transformation and Inclusive innovation.

Dr. John A. Mushomi, Ph.D

Lead Coach

Dr. Mushomi brings over 15 years of research and policy development experience.  He holds a Doctoral of Philosophy in Population Studies from Makerere University, a Master of Philosophy in Demography (MPhil) from the Cairo Demographic Centre, an extraordinary graduate diploma degree in Population and Development from the Cairo Demographic Centre, a general diploma degree in Demography from the Cairo Demographic Centre and a Bachelors in Social Sciences with a bias in sociology from Makerere University.  He also has 16 years of university teaching, research, and policy practice experience in research, development and policy analysis. He has trained with Johns Hopkins University on reproductive Health and Development as well as with the Global Health Institute in Population Health and Environment. He is a certified trainer and fellow Demographic Health Survey Analytics with ICF Macro Inc.

 

The most recent (2024) publication is an edited book titled Mobility, Identity and Conflict Resolution in Africa: Resources Belong to the People which he has edited and published by Springer: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-61745-4  and on population and climate change intersection https://austriaca.at/0xc1aa5572_0x003f5a27.pdf  . John is an editor for the Partners in Population and Development International e-Journal of South-South Cooperation in Population and Development and an associate editor for the International Journal of Educational Development in Africa. In addition to serving on the Union for African Population Scientists (UAPS) council representing Eastern and Horn of Africa, he is a founding vice president for the Population Scientists’ Association of Uganda. He has provided research and support services to ministries, departments, and agencies in East and Southern African countries in areas of research, and policy analysis.  faculty member at the Department of Population Studies at Makerere University. He also holds a research and Policy postdoctoral fellowship position with the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).

Over the years, he has worked on various areas of demographics, including reproductive health, demographic dividends, migration, urbanization and development, and population policy and development. He has provided research and support services to ministries, departments, and agencies in East and Southern African countries in areas such as migration, demographic dividend, and research and policy analysis.

Sabastiano Rwengabo, Ph.D

Policy Analysis, Political Economy and Research Coach

Dr. Sabastian RWENGABO is Political Scientist and Consultant in Fragility and Resilience Assessments (FRAs), Regionalism, Political Economy Analyses (PEAs), and Governance. He holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he was Research Scholar, President’s Graduate Fellow, & Graduate Teacher; MA and BA (First Class) from Makerere University; is a member and twice Laureate of the Governance Institute of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), based in Dakar, Senegal; and completed the Oakseed Executive Leadership Course (OELC) and History Makers’ Training (HMT) from the Institute for National Transformation (INT). He has several other advanced trainings. Based at Centre for Basic Research (CBR), Kampala, Dr. Rwengabo has authored the book titled Security Cooperation in the East African Community (Trenton, New Jersey: Africa World Press, 2018); co-edited the book titled Peace, Democracy and Development in Africa (London: Adonis & Abbey, 2020); and many other peer-reviewed Publications. In addition to mentoring doctoral researchers in Africa, he currently provides consultancy services for local, regional ang international institutions.

She holds a Masters of Gender and Women Studies from Makerere University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Ethnic, Cultural Minority, Cultural Minority, Gender, and Group Studies from the University of Iceland. She is a social development professional with expertise in leadership development, grant management, wellness and wellbeing, organizational development, mentorship and coaching, and a deep passion for gender equality for over 10 years. Allen is committed to empowering individuals and communities to create lasting change. Through strategic leadership, effective grant management, holistic wellness programs, and organizational development initiatives, she drives positive impact, promote inclusivity, and advocate for gender equality to transform lives and build a more equitable society.

Alex Grace Robert Mukiibi

Alex possesses over 18 years’ experience in Talent Assessment and Management. He has partnered with clients to identify, develop and retain talent; optimizing talent acquisition and retention. His expertise spans in Administration of psychometric assessments; Conducting interviews; and Interpretation of outcomes to support hiring and talent development decisions. For the last 15 years he has leveraged this accumulated experience, knowledge and skill to provide individual job seekers with CV Writing and interview preparation support services tailored to take into account individual abilities, preferences, unique attributes and accumulated experiences. He has leveraged the same expertise to play an advisory and confidante role through confidential one-on-one engagements to build capacities, confidence and know-how in the job search process. His future is focused on disseminating all he has learned and accumulated over the past 18 years, where it is applicable. Now he is excited to share his expertise with a broader audience. It is his honor to present to support the Usisi Amandla Fellows.

She is a Co-founder and Executive Director at Safe Places a private treatment center for psychiatric and psychological disorders. She brings wide experience in supporting women in mental health support processes. Safe Places with her leadership will be providing psycho social support to the fellows during their learning time to enable effective mental health and stability.

Timothy Chemonges

A seasoned expert in parliamentary democracy, legislative analysis, and governance, Chemonges Timothy brings over 13 years of impactful experience in shaping policy and advocacy. As Associate Director at the Centre for Policy Analysis (CEPA) and Parliament Watch Uganda, he leads initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in legislative processes.

His passion for empowering institutions and individuals extends to his role as a Board Member of Usisi Amandla Fellowship, an institution that mentors’ young women in leadership and policy development. A recognized thought leader, on governance and legislative reforms across the region and beyond.

During the fellowship he will be facilitating the Topic on Introduction to Public Policy Processes where he will be unpacking the theoretical process of public policy making.

Reagan is a development expert and professional with accomplished knowledge in governance, research, policy analysis and advocacy strategies with over nine years of experience managing a range of public policy and advocacy projects within East Africa.

He has worked in civil society in various capacities around project research and public policy engagement, governance, legislation, national and regional stakeholder engagement, content development and grants management.

Prosper Mubangizi

Political Economy Consultant - United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Member of the Board of Governors at ActionAid International Uganda

Prosper is a researcher, policy analyst, and a values driven leader with over 7 years of experience in advocacy around legislation, policy review and formulation, child rights, migration and refugee rights, youth inclusion and good governance within the Eastern African region. He possesses over 7 years’ experience in advising UN agencies, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), National and International Non-Governmental Organizations on Policy formulation, advocacy and implementation; research; resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement.

He has a widely experienced in legislative advocacy, facilitating high level engagements and lobby meetings with policy makers and legislators. Am an expert in pre and post legislative scrutiny and have supported many local and international organizations develop policy and advocacy strategies.

He has consulted for many organizations in legislation, budget advocacy, organization development and policy analysis, formulation and evaluation. He has served as National co- chair Girls Not Brides Uganda;- a consortium of 103 Organizations working to end child marriage. He sits on the Board of Directors of Action Aid International;- The Highest Decision Making body of Action Aid International Uganda as well as a member of different boards, coalitions and partnerships.

Prosper holds a degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Makerere University Kampala and a Masters of Public Policy Analysis and Governance of Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

During the fellowship he will be facilitating the topic on Public Policy Implementation deepening key areas like:

  • Understanding the politics of policy implementation
  • Identifying key stakeholders responsible for policy implementation
  • Obstacles to policy implementation
